Destini Rogers Bio/Artist Statement:
Destini Rogers is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in choreography design and dance performance. Her projects, where she often takes the lead, integrate sound design, film, and photography, exploring the influence that various artistic mediums and movement place on one another. Destini's choreographic approach examines the way dance is traditionally created and presented. By collaborating in diverse environments with diverse bodies and cultural perspectives, she facilitates contemplation on themes such as self-actualization, healing through the black-bodied movement, and the intricacies of community dynamics.

Rogers' professional development in dance began at the Classen School of Advanced Studies, where she engaged in an extensive training program covering a wide range of styles such as ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, African, and flamenco. This foundational education played a crucial role in shaping her versatile approach to dance. Destini studied at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she pursued dance and business, culminating in the honor of being crowned Miss Black UCO 2001 - 2002.

Her path as a performer transformed when she became a Top 8 Finalist on "So You Think You Can Dance," catapulting her into the commercial culture. This transition broadened Rogers' artistic scope, enabling her to work alongside icons such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, and Kanye West and to explore the realms of film, sound design, and production, as evidenced in her projects with Reebok, Apple, and Honda. Her passion for mixed media thrived in this setting, assisting various artists in developing their creative identities.

Collaborating with her collective, NIJAD Dance Artists and The Destro Experience, she has developed a groundbreaking sensor technology that translates dancers' movements into music. This innovative tool can potentially revolutionize how we experience dance and music. Rogers is dedicated to advancing this project, aiming to develop further technology, performances, and workshops that enable performers and audiences to engage fully with creativity's transformative and healing power.
